How to Check AI Search Citations for Your Brand
A repeatable evidence-based process for testing whether AI answers accurately represent a company.
Define answerable buyer questions
Write five questions prospects actually ask about your service, audience, pricing model and geography. Avoid testing only your exact brand name: nonbranded questions show whether the business is discoverable when a buyer has not selected a provider.
Record sources, not impressions
For each platform and query, capture the date, wording, cited URLs and any factual errors. An AI answer mentioning your brand without a reliable citation is not the same as a measurable referral. Repeat queries across sessions because responses can vary.
Improve source clarity
Make service descriptions, contact details, authorship and evidence easy to verify on crawlable pages. Correct inconsistent claims across your site and public profiles. Use clear headings and relevant internal links so a reader can locate the primary source of each answer.
Measure business outcomes
Review referral traffic and qualified enquiries alongside citation observations. Do not promise that structured data or one article will force a model to cite a website. Use the AI search answer-readiness checklist to prioritize corrections.
