Website Redesign SEO Launch Checklist

Protect existing organic visibility when launching a redesigned website or moving important pages.

Inventory pages before changing routes

Export existing indexed and high-traffic URLs, title tags, canonicals, internal links and conversion destinations. Identify pages that generate qualified leads, not only those with the largest visit counts. Decide which URLs can stay unchanged.

Map redirects individually

When a URL must change, redirect it to the closest relevant replacement, not automatically to the homepage. Test one-hop permanent redirects and avoid chains. Keep important headings and intent visible on replacement pages so the destination still answers the original search.

Validate technical signals in staging

Check robots directives, canonical URLs, sitemap generation, structured data and mobile rendering. Ensure a temporary staging noindex rule is not carried into production. Test forms, email notifications and payment or booking links separately from SEO checks.

Monitor the live release

After deployment, crawl key routes, inspect server errors and review Search Console coverage. Compare landing-page traffic and completed leads against the prelaunch baseline. Fix broken high-value paths first using a documented priority matrix.
